Partnering in Your Recovery
Life throws curve balls at us but you don’t have to face them alone. Whether you’re struggling with trauma, effects of addiction or weighed down by grief, seeking help takes courage and begins a healing process. I offer proven techniques to offer relief, in-person or online.
Common Questions
I’ll ask you about yourself at a pace you’re okay with, share insights, and we’ll explore solutions together since therapy is a team effort. I may suggest homework to boost your progress, and your effort shapes what we achieve. With therapy, you get out of it what you put into it.
I work with many types of trauma, from single-incident events like a motor vehicle accident or health emergency, to complex trauma like abuse or neglect or repeated exposure to injury or death in first response professions. Whatever the source of your symptoms, my focus is on tailoring treatment to meet your unique needs, using evidence-based modalities.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (often eye movements) to process traumatic memories still stored and unprocessed in your nervous system. This helps you digest the associated distress so that overtime you can release it. To get there, we notice and tolerate your activation moment to moment. The event itself doesn’t change, but what it means to you now does!
Somatic Experiencing (SE) focuses on your body’s physiology to process traumatic memories. SE involves sharing a brief description of the trauma, then attending to your body to notice your physical sensations moment to moment. The goal is to "ride out" somatic symptoms, sometimes with use of resources, to allow you to discharge activation in the body.
Yes, I accept a variety of insurance plans to fully or partially cover the cost of psychological services. Check with your insurance provider if you’re unsure what your plan covers. I will either collect your plan details and have you authorize direct billing, or have you pay upfront and issue a receipt you can use to submit to your insurer.
Therapy length varies depending on many factors, like your goals, resilience, coping strategies and complexity of your concerns. For single-incident trauma, 8 to 12 sessions of EMDR, SE or CPT is typical. Complex trauma often takes longer, but we’ll establish a plan to pace treatment objectives so you can reach short-term goals while building up to long-term ones.
Yes! A specialty of mine is treating trauma in first responders, however I also have experience working with civilians facing trauma, addiction and mood disorders. Feel free to reach out to see if we’re a good fit; we can likely sort this out in a free 15-minute consultation.
